Take advantage of your membership!

Maybe you’re new to the CWG, or maybe you’ve been a member for a long time but have yet to become involved. Maybe you’re new to writing or publishing in general and just aren’t sure how to get started. Here’s some perks you could (and should!) be using:

Set up a profile on our website

Many of us have a profile or a presence on social media somewhere, but many of us do not. If you would like to have some place to direct people when they ask you, “Where can I find you online?” set up a profile on our website! When you became a member, you should have received a Welcome email with your login info and password. You can find where to login under the Members tab on our homepage, and then go to My Account > Edit My Profile. Once you’re done, spend some time perusing our Member Directory, where you can find other writers in your area who like to write the same things you do!

Tell us about your books and other accolades

Whether you’re traditionally published, self-published, or part of a collaboration project, we want to hear about it and help spread the word! Members can put their books in our online Book Gallery or make announcements about upcoming book signings, readings, awards, and more by filling out forms accessible under Members > My Account after logging in. Your announcements will be seen on our website and social media accounts, where we have over 1,000 followers.

Enter our monthly contests

These will be the only contests we run in 2023 (no Spring Writing Contest this year). We invite members to submit to us every month – it’s FREE! You get a little prize money AND you’ll be published in our next anthology. We will have members from our Board judge the submissions, and one winner and one runner up will be announced the following month. Learn more HERE.

Come to our Monthly Meetings and other events

Our Monthly Meetings are always free and open to the public. These are great opportunities to meet other writers and improve your craft. And if you’re a member, it’s also a great opportunity to set up a few of your books for sale. Our meetings are always on the second Tuesday of the month and this year they will be on the 5th floor of the Edney Innovation Building at 1100 Market Street downtown in the large conference room. We are focusing on the Publishing side of writing, so each month we will have presenters speak on everything from how to write bios and blurbs, to how to self-publish, to how to find an agent, and more. And if you know you cannot make those Tuesday evenings, keep an eye on our calendar so you’ll know when our critique groups meet up, or when we schedule other events such as dinner socials or workshops.

If you’re not the type to check in online every day, you can still keep up with what the CWG is doing by subscribing to our newsletter. We currently have two options – a daily email, or a weekly digest. Choose how often you’d like to see news from the CWG in your inbox by going HERE.

Become a volunteer

We often need help from our membership, so if you’ve got a little spare time, please check out our We ❤️ Volunteers page. We’ve got a few tasks that require a little bit of work all year long, and then we also have tasks that we need a lot of help with, but only for a singular event. And if you know of an area you’d like to help out in but don’t see it on the list, feel free to reach out with your idea anyway!

We want everyone who joins the CWG to feel welcomed and appreciated. We want to help you reach your writing goals and connect you with others in your community who enjoy the same creative endeavor you do! Join us at one of our in-person or online events this year, or let us know how we can better serve our membership at info@chattanoogawritersguild.org.
