AI landed on the literary world like a science fiction space invader. Should we fear the future? How should we prepare? This presentation by CWG Board Member and retired professor M. D. Roblyer addresses the following topics and answer attendees’ follow-up questions:
- What exactly is AI and how does it work?
- How are authors currently using AI in writing and publishing processes?
- Which AI uses do some or all publishers prohibit?
- What are some compelling reasons authors should be wary of using Generative AI?
M. D. (Peggy) Roblyer [she/her], retired professor of educational technology, authored a dozen
Pearson Education textbooks, including Integrating Educational Technology into Teaching,
which introduced a novel approach to the field in 1996 and became its bestselling text; it remains
so today in its ninth edition. Her memoir Strong Glass is her first nonacademic book; she is at
work on another. Some of her nonfiction work has been published by Orange Blossom Books,
Bewildering Stories, TrashLight Press, and Bright Flash Literary Review. Two of her stories are
Chattanooga Writers’ Guild contest-winners; one appears in the Chattanooga Writer’s Guild Fall
2025 RidgeCut Anthology.
