In addition to our on-going monthly contest, we are opening a special contest to round out our 2024 anthology. In this special contest, Chattanooga Writers’ Guild seeks submissions of Poetry, Fiction, or Non-fiction–but with a twist. Each entry, must include each of the following three words: rust, cut, and window. No exceptions. However, endings may be added. For example, acceptable endings for the word wood might be woods, woody, or wooded. However, the words Broadwoodwidger or woodpecker would not qualify. If you have questions, please email us.
Deadline to submit one work in each category is April 20, 2025.
Note the end date is not the final day of the month as are our typical monthly contests.
This contest is available to members only. Once logged into your account, the submission form is under the “Members” tab on our homepage. If you need help logging in, please contact tech-support@chattanoogawritersguild.org. Winners will be notified before June 1. First place winner in each category will be awarded $50 and a copy of the anthology. Runners-up will receive an anthology copy.
Submission Guidelines (Please note they are different from the monthly contest rules.)
- Only one (1) work per genre will be accepted.
- No revisions will be accepted once an entry is submitted.
- From the entry form, please carefully select the contest category into which you are entering (Three-way Contest Poetry, Fiction, or Non-fiction) so that your work may be directed to the correct judge. Scroll down to the end of the traditional monthly entries to designate your Three-Way Contest entry. Failure to designate the genre may result in disqualification.
- Title each entry at the top of your submitted document as well as in the entry form below.
- Do not include any identifying information in the uploaded document as the contest entries are judged blindly.
- Word Limits: for Fiction and Creative Nonfiction, the word limit is 1,500.
- Line Limits: For Poetry, the line limit is 60. As our printed format width is limited, we may need to wrap longer lines.
- Judges for this special contest were selected from the 2024 winners.
Poetry: John C. Mannone
Fiction: James Brumbaugh
Creative non-fiction: Cynthia Robinson Young
