Nature Poetry Workshop
August 1, 2024, 12:00 PM
400 E. Main Street, Chattanooga, TN 37409
Sponsored by the Chattanooga Public Library
The woods are lovely, dark., and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep
– Robert Frost, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”

As much as I love traditional works such as those by Robert Frost, Wiliam Wordsworth, and others, the world of nature poetry has much more breadth than those few poets. Contemporary nature poetry includes such names as Pablo Neruda and Joy Harjo. I will begin this workshop with a warmup exercise and provide examples of both traditional and modern poetic works as examples for composition. Participants will write poems in whichever style they choose. Some may choose to write prose works. This workshop is sponsored by the Chattanooga Public Library and their writing group, but all are welcome.
