Howling Hills Publishing cofounders Terry Shaw and Brad Lifford are accepting nonfiction book proposals and will explain what they’re looking for at our October Monthly Meeting. Our meeting will begin at 6 p.m. tonight, Oct. 10, on the 5th floor of Edney Innovation Building, 1100 Market St. in the large conference room (to the right as you exit the elevator.)
They will also discuss their new book, 23 Tales: Appalachian Ghost Stories, Legends & Other Mysteries. They’ll be joined by three contributors to the anthology of true stories, Guild members Natalie Kimbell and Sherry Poff, along with Chattanooga native Patty Ireland. Ireland is a professor at Pellissippi State who grew up in Chattanooga and was part of a popular gospel group in the 70s, the Kenny Parker trio.
Shaw and Lifford founded Howling Hills in 2022. Together, they coauthored East Tennessee Garden Stories and edited 23 Tales. They’re committed to telling stories from Greater Appalachia and focus on people, the outdoors, food, and the environment. Shaw has worked as a newspaper reporter and columnist, a copywriter and publicist, a novelist, a freelance book editor, and the content manager for a Fortune 500 company. He serves on the
board of the Tennessee Mountain Writers and is a past president of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild. Lifford has been a reporter, editor and film critic for daily newspapers in East Tennessee and a freelance magazine writer, as well as film critic for Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine. He has also worked in corporate communications and marketing communications.
