Meet your July 2023 Monthly Contest Judge

Helga Kidder, Vice President and founder of the Chattanooga Writers’ Guild, is back to judge this month’s submissions!

Helga Kidder lives in the Tennessee hills with her husband. When the muse rests, she plays tennis or bakes. Her poems have recently been published in Kakalak, American Diversity Report, Poetry South and others. She has five collections of poetry, Learning Curve, poems about emigration and assimilation, Loving the Dead, which won the Blue Light Press Book Award 2020, Blackberry Winter, Luckier than the Stars, and Wild Plums. July call for submissions is Poetry with the theme of Days in the Sun. Writers are invited to interpret that as loosely or closely as they wish. Deadline to submit 1 to 3 poems is July 31, 2023 with a 40 line limit. Winners announced in August.

Our Monthly Contests open on the 1st of each month and close on the last day, with one winner and one runner-up announced the following month. Winners receive $25, and winners and runners-up receive publication in The Pulse and our anthology, and one free copy of our next anthology, available in 2024.
