Rhyme N Chatt needs volunteers

Rhyme N Chatt (RNC), a local group of poets and spoken word artists, will be participating in the Chambliss/ Read20 AnniversaPARTY Event this coming Saturday, October 22nd. Chambliss Center for Children will host a free family-friendly event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 315 Gillespie Road. The agency has partnered with local nonprofit Read20 to feature its Storyland Trail where local performing groups will bring favorite children’s books to life. RNC is one of those groups, and they have asked the Chattanooga Writers’ Guild for volunteers.

RNC’s goal is to honor the books they’ve selected by demonstrating their themes of kindness and compassion while inspiring children and families to read. They also hope to inspire them to write by showing them that there are authors who live right in their neighborhood!

They need people present on October 22 to help set up, assist with the performance, be in the performance, man the information tables for our organizations and to engage with attendees. This event is expected to gather about 1,000 people.

Setup starts at 8am at Chambliss Home. There is quite a distance to walk and carry things from the parking area to where the story trail will be. Set up includes bags of inflated balloons for a balloon arch, a huge banner, two 10-foot tents, tables, chairs and all of the items they are using to bring the books to life. So far they have about 4 people.

RNC has selected two books to bring to life on Saturday:

GiGi the Giving Grasshopper is about generosity. They need about 4 more actors and a couple helpers.

I Love My Crown is about embracing our differences. RNC’s hope is to have people of different races, cultures and abilities represented. There will also be a crown decorating activity station where help is needed.

Anyone who is interested and can come out for even part of the day, especially to set up at 8 am, would be appreciated. If you have CWG shirts, please wear them! For further information or to sign up to volunteer, contact Marsha Mills, Rhyme N Chatt President, at 423-504-0361, or visit www.RhymeNChatt.com.
