Kelly Hanwright is a survivor, poet, and mental health awareness blogger. In April 2020, she published a memoir, "The Locust Years." It is a book of poetry that tells the story of growing up with a severely mentally ill parent. This book began as poems written in her personal journal through ten years worth of therapy. Like many writers, Kelly writes to process her thoughts and emotions. Kelly's poetry has been published in Birmingham Arts Journal, Rogue Agent, Lady Literary Magazine, Abyss & Apex, American Diversity Report & more. A Best of the Net and two-time Pushcart Prize nominee, Kelly has led poetry classes, critique groups, presentations and performed features. A 5-year high school teacher, Kelly has a BA in English Literature and an MA in Curriculum Instruction.
