Lucy
Crider resides in Chattanooga, TN with her husband, three sons,
two cats and a Boston Terrier. Lucy has always enjoyed exploring
the creative arts with paint, pottery and arts/crafts. She became
interested in writing during the 8th grade when her English teacher,
Martha Gill, gave assignments on creative writing and poetry.
She completed a bachelor’s degree in American Studies and
a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University
of Tennessee in Knoxville. Most recently, she was employed by
UnumProvident as a Rehabilitation Consultant where she completed
technical reports regarding a person’s ability to obtain
and maintain employment.
Upon “retiring” to care for her three children
ages 3, 5 and 16, Lucy became reacquainted with her love of
the written word. She spends her free time reading a variety
of materials and writing creative non-fiction. Her goal is to
preserve favorite family stories in written format for future
generations. She takes ordinary events and finds extraordinary
discoveries within them. She is also working on her first book,
a series of short stories about befriending a stray cat.
Lucy is an active member of the Hixson community. She teaches
Vacation Bible School at her church each summer, is a room mother
for her son’s pre-school classroom and volunteers at McKamey
Animal Center. In her spare time, she runs Ellie Mae Pet Sitting
Service, where she provides animal care while the owners are
away.
Her favorite authors include Arthur Gordon, (Touch of Wonder),
Peter Jenkins (Walk Across America, Close Friends)
and Beverly Lewis (The Preacher’s Daughter, Raising
Sarah Cain, The Brethren).
Lucy joined the Chattanooga Writer’s Guild in September,
2006 and credits the organization with providing the tools and
support to encourage her creative spirit.
