Ginnie Sams is a writer, a poet, a storyteller,
and a lover of the arts. She has written five books of poetry,
plus several chap book collections, and is well known in Trenton,
GA as one of the original Trenton Beatnik poets. Ginnie enjoys
appearing before an audience. In addition to reading her poetry
in a performance setting, she is an accomplished motivational
speaker for corporate, civic, and professional groups. She was
the hostess for the four part TV series “Expressing Yourself”
that appeared on Georgia, Ohio, and Iowa public television. In
her former career as a corporate executive, she published articles
in various trade journals and technical newsletters, and was a
frequent speaker at corporate events and professional associations.
Personal family history provides Ginnie with material for her
tall tales and performance stories. She has told stories to
groups in Zimbabwe and Costa Rica, as well as Chattanooga, Asheville,
and Atlanta. She was chosen to be a storyteller delegate to
China as part of the People to People Ambassador program in
April 2008, but was unable to attend because she broke her elbow
while visiting Chiapas Mexico.
Her short works include a series of fanciful stories about
the dark side of human nature. She also writes wisdom tales,
and is currently working on her memoirs. A novel has been in
the works for “far too many years”, but may finally
emerge now that Ginnie has time for full-time writing.
As a lover of the arts, Ginnie is fearless about dabbling in
various art forms. As a member of the Emerson Drum Choir, she
played djembe at numerous venues including the Carter Center
and Atlanta’s Millennium Celebration on New Year’s
Eve 1999/2000.
Ginnie lives in Rising Fawn, Georgia, with her calico cat Wootchie.
She has two grown children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Her philosophy of life is “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
