Member Receives Poetry Award Nomination

John Mannone has been nominated for the Rhysling Poetry Award for his work,

"Layers of Man." Poets appearing in past Rhysling anthologies (a collection of speculative fiction from which 
nominees are chosen) include: 
Isaac Asimov, Margaret Atwood, Diane Ackerman, Alan P. Lightman, and Ray Bradbury.

Young Writers' Short Story Competition Offers Awards of up to $10,000

Deadline: March 1, 2010 Postmark

The National Society of Arts and Letters invites young writers 18 to 33 years of age to participate in its 2010 Short Story Competition which will take place in Clearwater, Florida on May 21, 2010. Contestants must not have reached the age of 33 on the date of the competition and must first compete at the Chapter level.

Chattanooga Artists Collaborate, Send Love and Relief to Haiti Through Music, Dance, Spoken Word, and Poetry

On Feb. 20 the Urban League Young Professionals Association, The Creative Underground, Lindsay Street Hall and CreateHere, will host To Haiti With Love, a benefit concert to raise money for the relief effort in Haiti. Money raised will go to Chattanooga Red Cross. The event will be held at Lindsay Street Hall from 7 p.m. till midnight. Tickets will be available at the door and cost $10. Artists hope to raise $5,000.
