Mike Ventura: Conventional wisdom has it that planning for a future in journalism makes as much sense as signing up for a career as a Pontiac dealer. But that's not how members of the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism's just-graduated class of 2009 see it.
The deadline for opting out of the Google Books settlement is fast approaching -- Sept. 4 -- and apparently there's a lot of confusion among rights holders (authors and publishers) about what it means to opt out of the class. Some panelists in an online Webinar tried to clarify the options.
