Poetry Reading and Fun in St. Elmo Saturday, June 20Sundown in St. Elmo--Monthly Open House Series Upcoming third Saturdays: July 18, August 15 St. Elmo Merchants Association announces a new series of Saturday evening monthly events that coincides with the popular new World Music Summer program at the Incline Railway Lower Station. The Sundown In St Elmo series features working artist receptions, open mics, live music, and giveaways from participating merchants. The first Sundown in St. Elmo event will kick off Saturday, June 20th at 6pm. Participating businesses include Umbra Essence Candles and Gifts, Pasha Coffee and Tea, Body Wisdom Therapeutic Massage and Collective Clothing. Each of the businesses will offer in-store specials as well as a variety of activities between 6pm-9pm. All events are free and open to the public. Pasha Coffee and Tea will feature “New Voices”, an evening of poetry from 4 accomplished area poets, as well as a reading from a mystery guest. Visitors will also have the chance to win a $15 gift card. The unique Turkish coffeehouse is home of the Halvah Latte and is the only coffee house in Chattanooga with a full organic-only coffee bar.

UTC Summer Writers Workshop Due to local demand, a half-day option for the upcoming UTC Summer Writers Workshop is $300 instead of $430 for the full day option. Half-day option: 9 am-11:30 am, Sun.-Thurs., July 26-30, including: -5 small-group workshop meetings from 9 to 10:30 - Daily master classes or discussion sessions with guest poet Mark Cox and guest prose writer Sue William Silverman 10:30-11:30 - One-on-one consultation with workshop leaders - Nightly readings by participants and faculty Held at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from July 25-31, these six days will provide opportunities to share, discuss, and enhance your writing with published instructors and peer writers. Open to all members of the writing community, the workshops are designed for writers of all levels, including special cross-genre workshops for local high school students.
