#96 -- Events - News - Classes -News
Congratulations To CWG members, Ray Zimmerman and Jennifer Hoff who recently completed the Bill Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute presented by Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga. _____________________________________
A local writer is starting a women's writing group in our community based on the "Zona Rosa" model, and she asked the CWG to pass along details to our members who may be interested in joining. As you will read in her invitation below, this group is for women who are interested in an intense and serious group that meets once a month for several hours. If this group looks like something for you, please contact Nancy Hatch Woodward - her contact information is included below.
Zona Rosa Writing Group If you have read the Secrets of the Zona Rosa: How Writing (and Sisterhood) Can Change Women's Lives, you already know the premise of what the group would be like. The nonfiction book tell about a woman in Savannah who started a writers' group many years ago. But it's not just a writers' group, it's a place for women to explore their lives and their writings. They meet once a month, usually for several hours, and read their writing and share with each other "exorcises" they do as homework in between the meetings. It's really a serious group of women who end up having a lot of fun and helping each other through writer's block, truth telling, divorces, and celebrations. There are Zona Rosa groups all over the place now -- called subrosa groups! We would like to start one here. If you think you might be interested, please get a copy of the book for an explanation of what it is about. ; If after reading it, you would like to "join the club," please contact: Nancy Hatch Woodward, hatchwood@aol.com or at 842-6353.

The Beatniks are Back --- A benefit for the Trenton Arts Council
The Trenton Arts Council is again presenting a beatnik Poetry Reading.
The poets, including Naman Crowe, Bob Dombrowki, Ray Zimmerman, and Ginnie Sams, among others, are poets who have read at the previous beatnik readings.
The Drum Circle will accompany the poets. The Drum Circle is a collaboration of drummers that have been playing together for several years. They will provide an accentuation of the rhythms of the poems and a distinctive backdrop that anchors the poetic voice to the recitations and incantations that have been present since the emergence of our civilization.
The popularity of the beatnik readings verifies a continuity of response to the emotional appeal of the beatnik legend.
Accompanying the poets will be several modern dancers from Contrapasso, including Katie Kasch, the artistic director, giving an even more theatrical edge to the performance. Contrapasso has built a reputation of bold and experimental choreography.
Contrapasso Theater 1800 Rossville Avenue [off Main Street ] Saturday, January 17 8 pm Admission: $10 ______________________________________

ONLINE SWEEPSTAKES A cool free sweepstakes is happening over at the Writer's Digest Web site, where you can enter to win a free copy of the new book, Pep Talks, Warnings & Screeds, as well as other awesome stuff.
Here's a little about the book: "In Pep Talks, Warnings & Screeds, acclaimed Southern story writer and novelist George Singleton serves up everything you ever need to know to become a real writer (meaning one who actually writes), in bite-sized aphorisms. It's Nietzsche's Beyond Good & Evil meets Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird. It's cough syrup that tastes like chocolate cake. In other words, don't expect to get better unless you get a good dose of it, maybe two." _______________________________________
