Nancy Williams wins big at St. Simons Conference

St. Simons Island, GA -- Nancy L Williams of Chattanooga, TN and member of the Chattanooga Writers Guild, surprised many attending the Southeastern Writers Association Conference this year when she swept six of the top writing awards during the recent June 15-19, 2008 conference. Williams won the awards with a single entry called, A Very Basic Christmas. "It's hard to find a short inspirational story which appeals to young adults as well as the older generation. But that was my goal when I wrote A Very Basic Christmas," Williams said. She captured the Sue Ellen Hudson Inspirational Award (third place); the Angel Award for Holiday Seasonal Writing (Honorable Mention); the M.L. Brown Award for Young Adult Literature (second place); the LeRoy Spruill Award for Short Fiction (first place); the Southeastern Writers Association (SWA) Best Fiction (only one award given); and the Gift of Writing Award (one award given only). Each award is given by one or more judges of each category, with no knowledge of who submitted the entry or how the other judges decided their winners.

Our congratulations go out to Nancy.

July-August issue of The Oxford So & So (Volume 3, No. 5), and would like to have an influx of articles and poems on Mississippi. Particularly the North Mississippi areas of Oxford to Tupelo to Grenada (and all the beautiful hamlets nearby)...

Think Southern flavored nostalgia, humor/satire, poetry (rhyming is pre-

Prose payment is 2 copies for the first article/story in an issue and 1 copy
for each additional article/story in the same issue. Poetry pay is 1 copy
for each poem, regardless of length. Prose should be 1,000 words or

Submission of material constitutes acceptance of these guidelines.

A sample copy is $4.00. One year (Six bi-monthly issues) is $14.
